Ive been searching for a set of high alt pistons for a 806 gas C-301 in standard bore. Ive looked at Case IH but to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction to help find a set of 4?? Im rebuilding a H pulling engine, and it uses IH C-301 pistons, but, the stock, firecraters are too low of compression. Ive seen high alt pistons from IH, and they are not the same as what stock is. higher compression the better. Thanks for any help! ChadS

Bore it out and use M aluminum step heads, You will probably have to use dextron for cooling, I did, in the 80,s

Is there even such a thing as "high altitide" pistons for the C301? I thought IH did away with that once they started getting out of the low-compression gas engine business, i.e. the Hs and Ms.

Well, at one time you could get them. Back in 95 I built a H farmall, that used a set of 301 LP high altitude pistons from IH, then in 97 or 98,, I built 2 more engines, that used the same piston, The sales clerk said, these are it, there are no more of the LP High altitude. The boxes they came in, looked like they were made in the stone ages. I kept the boxes just for nostalgia I guess. During htose times in my search for them, I sent back numerous sets of plain high alt pistons cause they were not what I was looking for at the time. They were just a step up from the original firecraters, just with a shallower dish in the piston dome to increase compression. Now, I cant find any at all. I kick myself cause I sent em back, I guess once they are gone, they are gone. I found a non IH piston that they say is a high compression piston VS the stock pistons offered, 80 bucks a hole, so Im having one shipped out to me to have a look... Chad
