340U Steering Drag Link Rods

I purchased a 340 Utility with power steering last year. I had to replace the front axle, and ended up removing all of the steering linkage to replace the tie rod ends. Making a long story short, I lost the labels I had attached onto the drag link rods that showed which was "left" and "right". One rod is 27 1/2" long, and the other is 30". I have the kind of rods that lock the ball joint adjustment with lock nuts, not clamps.

Would someone with a 340 U mind going out and measuring their"s and let me know which is which? I don"t know how important 2 inches is, but I"d like to get it right.

I have a 1958 340U. Longest unit goes on left from drivers seat. I have been driving tractors for some 55 years. Last Saturday had my first accident. Turned that unit upside down on top of me in a creek while bushhogging. Dug myself out, dragged myself 1/2 mile across the pasture for help.Only suffered a broken shoulder but feel like the provibal MacTruck has run over me. God was/is with me! I have no right to be alive. Please careful-All.

Thanks for identifying where the longest rod goes. Thanks also for sharing about your accident. Somehow I didn"t think a utility tractor could flip over like that - they seem to have such a lower center of gravity than a row crop. I know I will keep your accident in mind when I drive my 340 in the future. Because of the way you have to drive a 340, straddling it almost like riding a horse, you really can"t jump clear if something like that begins to happen. It must have been a really frightening experience. Glad to hear you weren"t hurt worse. Sounds to me like God protected you.

Sure glad you were able to survive that mishap and found help. A few years ago there was a
man that mowed hay or pastures with his JD tractor
and 9-foot sickle bar mower for lot of farmers in the area. That tractor somehow flipped and trapped him under it. He didn't survive. A few
years later this man's son was operating a tractor, may have been the same tractor and was hit by one of my co-worker's driving a Ford LTD.
My co-worker had a little too much to drink and was flown to shock trauma by helicopter. Tractor
driver wasn't hurt. Car was totaled and tractor
had a lot of damage too. My co-worker was off for about 4 weeks and returned to work on crutches. Be careful with those tractors. Hal
