I noticed that the "Mahindra" tractor from India was once teamed up with IH in the 60s.They even mention that certain design aspects of their former "B" models are still used with todays Mahindra tractors.Anyone have any experience with these? I hear they are very expensive units.

I don't know Mahandra model numbers, but, some of the current Mahandra models carry on with the old IH B275, B414, 424, 444, etc design evolution of parts and construction. They are very good tractors. Some of the Mahandra models are of pure Asian design and use no former IH parts or design. Thdy just look like a typical Korean or Chinese tractor to me. No idea about quality of these "Asian" Mahandras.

Ih never really teamed up with Mahindra. Before the Tenneco /Ih merger in the late 70"s IH owned the factory in India and made some 74 and 84 series tractors there. After the merger and the reorganization of Case IH the factory was sold to Mahindra with the rights to manufacture tractors and parts. The first Mahindras were actually made on IH tooling. The only thing that changed were the casting marks and the grills, paint colors, etc.

Paul I bought a Mahindra 3510HST this spring, has 3cyl diesel 4X4 frontend loader it cost $18,900, but I am satisfied with it. One of the guys I drive with bought a 2810HST two yrs ago and has not had one minutes worth of trouble from it. Nice tractors, I plan on using mine for many yrs to come. Tom P.S. The 3510 replaced an older MF 65 with loader.

Looked at taking them on a year ago, after I got involved a little more, I found out that the little things will just drive you nuts. So, needless to say I do not sell Mahindra tractros, they sure looked good and the little ones are made by Mitsubishi, but at this time I think the US facility has more irons in the fire than they can tend to. Plus, I heard dealer support is not the best in the world either. These are not facts I can prove, just hear say.

I know a guy that just bought one,he claimed it was over $30,000!! All the consumable items (like filters) only come from the dealer...nobody else makes them. They have Korean or Japanese writing on them.Strange,as its an Indian machine..... guess the diesel is Asian???
I see EBAY has Russian tractors occasionally for around $6-7,000....and Mitsubishi Remanufactured models for around the same.Even Northern Hydraulics has NorTrac tractors for a reasonable price...so I guess the market is flooded with sub $10,000 machinery.
I think I will stick with the tried and true though....cant beat $1500 for a Ute that actually works...(even though I have far more than that in it by now....).

I live in Indiana and there was a dealer here for a while Debray. 2 of the fellas that work for me own them and they have had trouble from the begining, nothing major just nickle dime things that stop them from working . Now Dealer is gone and parts are 200 miles away, Guess it woundnt be bad if you lived close too a dealer.

I have a Mahindra 6000 4WD w/Fel. 60HP (4 cyl diesel) to go along with the SC and the 230. REAL BRUTE!! Does work like a tractor rated 20 HP more. With loaded 16.9 X 28 rears it weighs in around 11,000 lbs (w/FEL). Good on fuel as well. BobG in VA

Paul, Gene is right, they are well made machines. When I was looking for a 35hp loader diesel I went to a local dealer and they are put together well, no comparison between them and that chinese junk on the market!!! Prices were reasonable also IMHO.

You heard wrong they are not expensive. They are also good tractors and were the largest selling brand under 50hp two years ago acording to an article i read. Go look at them and compare prices.

The story in Farm Show magazine a few years back was that they were still making the old style utility tractors (i.e. 354, 564, 674 heritage) up until not that long ago. Identical to the IH design.

Mahindra is/was probably the last manufacturer of TRUE IH tractors, if you can call those ugly little utes true IH tractors ;)
