Why I love My NAPA...vol.1..bearings

First, thanks for the responses to my F12 wheel bearing question. I wish I would have seen them before spending a couple hours putting the rubber to the road hunting for them. Called my local NAPA aout 11:20AM(close at 12:00 on Sat.) and gave them ID and OD plus IH#'s from 1939 parts book. By the time I arrived(15-20 mins)they had found the # (BR2788 for anyone who needs it..2720 for the race).They didn't have it in stock, but had called 3 of their competitors in the area and had found 2 bearings and talked the man into waiting on me to drive there to get them! These guys go above and beyond to help me with all my old tractors. Funny thing: Whenever I walk in, one or two of them always ask first thing"what YEAR we working on today?"Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get the word out that NAPA in Seneca, SC is an O.I.F.P.S."Old Iron Friendly Parts Store" BTW, got the new wheels blasted, painted, tires on, and installed. We have a great NAPA store here in Boulder. I rebuilt the gear box on a IH 15 rake and they had all the bearings and seals exept for one and they got it delivered by noon the same day. I have also had them make up some hydraulic hoses for me. The only beef I have had with them is that they didn't order any tractor calendars this year. There was a change in ownership and nobody put in the calendar order.

just for the record and kind of off the subject except it is about NAPA. I needed Magneto points for an old 1 cyl walk behind Graverly. $52 dollars from the Graverly dealer after a week wait, (yes $52 just points nothing else), $11 from local NAPA overnight. I'm not related to NAPA but they are a good place to check first,

In a lot of cases,the aftermarket will whip the dealers hide on pricing.Its all about volume I suppose....the dealers cant sell nearly as many as all the parts stores out there combined.However,as is the latest trend,the auto dealers are becoming very competitive on pricing...trying to recapture some of the share they lost all thru the 80s and 90s.It kinda makes sense,because a lot of the parts car dealers sell is made by the same people that make the aftermarket pieces,only in different packaging.Now the parts store trend is off shore Chinese/Taiwan/Hong Kong made parts...as an economy priced alternative to the name brand stuff.From what I have seen,most of that stuff is made to very low standards...

A good auto parts store is a rare commodity.Just being a NAPA,doesnt make them any better than anyone else...afterall,most NAPA stores are independently owned and operated,as are Car Quest stores...etc....what makes the difference is the people employed there.Some care,some are smart,some are treating the job as a paycheck,and have little formal training,or common sense.The 2 parts stores near here are terrible.One is a NAPA.The counter help there think they know what you need more than you do.And they are very inflexible,and not very personable.The store changed ownership about 9 years ago (the previous people were there for over 20 years),and was bought up by whoever could scrape the most money together.NAPA doesnt care who buys their franchises,so long as they have some money.And all that talk on TV with Dale Jr,and Michael Waltrip pushing NAPAs "good stuff"...well,that may come to an end...as NAPA is considering dumping DEI support.And their "Good stuff" is repackaged parts (Walker exhaust,Gates belts/hose,Dana chassis parts,Cardone rebuilt,Chicago Rawhide bearings/seals) available most anywhere else.
Bottom line,the sign out front doesnt mean a lot,but the guys behind the counter do.They are the best advertisement a business could have.

Glad you found them! My local guy is like that, but so is the NAPA I frequent in Simpsonville. Anyways at least now you can give the crank a god pull instead of a good push.

I see in your post you spoke of Simpsonville. I was born in Greenville and spent my youger years in Simpsonville back when it had only one interstate two-lane highway. Highway 76 I believe. Lived on a small farm off of West Georgia Rd.
