Problem with remote hydraulics on M

The hydraulics on my 46 M are powered by the standard belly pump. This is plumbed to a two spool control valve. One spool operates the 3pt cylinders (double acting). The hitch works fine. But, when I hook up my NH 469 haybine to the other spool, it wont lift a bit. The haybine has a single/double acting cylinder with only one hose attached. I figured if I hooked this hose up to the "out" port on the valve it would work. The other port on the valve is capped. I cannot find a switch on the valve indicating single or double. The coupler is a pinoeer type. I can hear the pump working when actuated, but nothing happens. I am sure this is a simple fix, but I am new to hydraulics and need some help. Thanks!

I went out and tried it again this morning, and the darn thing worked. Everything is exactly the same except my tractor was not up to running temperature this time. Could it be that the hydraulic oil is too light? Maybe I should switch to 30W. Also, there is no fitting that I can see on the second port on the cylinder- neither a breather nor a plug. How can this be? Thanks you guys for your help!

Hey Skyler,

Just had another thought.

If you are sure everything is hooked correctly, plumbed correctly and is according to hoyle as far as the cylinder being in good shape, have you got the trailering pin removed from the haybine?

I've pulled that stunt before. :>)

Where are you connecting this cylinder again? If you can't trace the hose back to the second spool on this hydraulic valve, you didn't connect it in the right place.

You should not need a two-way hookup to lift a haybine. Most haybines, even modern ones, are one-way. Make sure this cap on the cylinder is a vented cap so air can get in and out, and the vent isn't plugged.

Yep,

The two-way cylinder has either got to be vented or plumbed. Can't just plug off one side and expect it to work.

If the cylinder already has a hose and pioneer fitting, it has to be plugged into the valve's other side or taken off and that port vented.

Just leaving it unhooked will bind it up like eating cheese at a wedding luncheon. :>)

Skyler,

You've got to run another hose from that cylinder. It is binding up.
