Hey folks! I"m visiting my new baby granddaughter (3 weeks old) here in San Jose. Are ther any nearby collectors or antique tractor sites to visit?
I will be here until Saturday, the 18th, when my wife, 9 year old granddaughter, & I will fly back to Minnesota.
Weather is sunny, 70"s & clear skies so far. Sure different from the rainy stuff we have had this spring in west central MN.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Wayne

You missed a heck of a storm on Monday night. I was going east on 94 when the skies opened up about 6:30pm. Tornado warnings in Grant, Ottertail and Douglas Counties. I was down to 20mph on the interstate a few times it was raining so hard. Can't believe how wet it is through the valley and out into ND.

If you get a 1/2 day option to do something, the San Jose flee market is very large and filled with things some city folk don't know what is. North in the city near the airport. ask and they will direct you to it. Farm stuff creeps farther away from city center every year. I lived in SJ on 19th street My house was built in a Plum orchard in 1915.

How long can you break away? First choice: Heidrick Ag History Center in Woodland - you won't be disappointed. Time permitting, there is the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento and the Knight Foundry not too far away.

Hi Wayne, Are you close to New York Mills or Ottertail, MN? I restored 5 or 6 of those Standard Twin garden tractors made back in the late 30's or early 40's. I did a Viking too.
I still have and use a moldboard plow from one of those tractors. Hal
PS: You should take a tour through the wine country.

Hi-I am 35 miles or so west of Ottertail in Fergus Falls. This is right off exit 54 on Interstate 94.
Old plows know the ground and can turn the best furrows!!

I bought the first one of those tractors in 1960 and I have used that plow every year since then. I replaced the plow point and it's still as shiny as the day I bought it. Those tractors were away ahead of their time. All gear driven with 2 speeds forward and reverse. Had a mult-disc clutch. Even had a pto so you could install a belt pulley. I sold all of those tractors and modified the plow bracket so I could attached it to my Gilson garden tractor. I'm able to lift it with the hydraulics on the tractor.

My wife and I were in Santa Clara back in the 70's
I was sent there to install instrumentation on 2 new scout vehicles. One was being built by Lockheed in Sunnyvale and one by FMC in St Jose.
Due to the strong unions in CA I was told I couldn't touch those vehicles. The US government
had to issue contracts for the instrumentation
and I got to inspect their work. We took a tour through the wine country and stopped at Santa Cruz to eat and wade in the ocean. This was when Spiro Agnew has to resign the vice presidency and they were after Nixon too. Have fun. I bet you're proud of that granddaughter. Hal

Those tractors were made in MN and sold all over the US. Truck farmers used them for cultivating
their crops. I see they have a forum too.
