Stuck I-6 rear rim--Victory!!!

I posted about 2 months ago about the rim of my I-6 which was stuck solid(rusted) to the hub. I've been trying to get it off for some months now. The hub is 3 inches thick cast steel with a flange on the back which the rim clamps against with the usual IH rim clamps. There is about a 2 inch wide flat surface on the hub that the rims raised center slides on with about 1/8 inch or less clearance. That clearance was filled with rust from the last 60 years I suppose. I got it off today and I am so happy!!! I made a puller from 2 inch square tubing (3/8 thick) to pull on the back side of the rim with 5/8 bolts and threaded rods though the clamp holes. You can see parts of the puller on the floor in the picture. It took several days of tightening and retightening to finally break it loose. PB blaster, a three pound hammer and finally an impact wrench got it. I finally saw it move some yesterday and figured I could get it today. Now for the other side!! Hope it's not as tough. When these are off, I can fix the brakes.

You see, just like I've always said. If the Owner's Manuals were honest they would tell you that the entire tractor needs to be disassembled, coated with neverseez, and put back together every fifteen years.
Of course, for modern tractors that's moot, as they're not going to last long enough to rust.

Guess I was lucky on my I-4, the left rim came right off. They do fit rather snug. I haven't tried the right side yet, might get around to that one in another 3 years or so.

Yes, I sure did try driving it with the clamps loose and I think you could have driven that thing miles and it would have never have come loose. It took all the torgue I could put on 8 of the 5/8 inch bolts before it finally came. I tried it with only 4 bolts pulling on it first, but no dice. I had to make some more brackets to use all 8 clamp holes in the hub. The rim is really heavy duty and thick metal, but there are a couple places where the two inch tubing pressed the rim in a little. Won't affect the use of it however.
