Split my 400D, replaced the clutch disk, then joined the tractor, but now the clutch is apparently locked to the flywheel/pressure plate. With the unit running, trying to shift out of neutral causes nasty grinding noises. I can shift with the engine off. I adjusted the clutch according to written instructions, still to no avail. I locked he pressure plate open (with 3 bolts that draws the plate up), and still it is connected to the flywheel. I even put the tractor in gear, shoved the clutch as far as possible, tried to start it, and of course, the tractor moved forward. I was hoping this would free it, but the tractor tried to climb a couple cinder blocks. Nothing I can do frees the clutch disk.I removed the inspection plate and observed the operation of the three clutch release levers against the throwout bearing, and they appear to be working. Now the confession. When joining the tractor (using threaded rod), I got the alignment off center and cocked to one side, and applied a lot of force with the rod to the point of having the ring gear scratch the inside of the bell housing. Could see that the clutch shaft was cocked inside the pressure plate. Noticed the problem and tried again, getting it joined. Could I have screwed up the clutch disk with the clutch shaft when it went in cocked? What did I do wrong? The power take-off spins when the handle is engaged, if that means anything. Dang, just finished painting it, putting in all new wiring, TA, along with a bunch of other stuff, now I suppose it must be split again. How depressing!
