Hey you guys in the know. I"m about to dig into my M replacing the front cover so I can add live hyd. My question is how hard "in general" does the front pulley come off. Are they usually stuck hard? Does it need a puller?

I've done a couple recently (Super M and 400). On both cases after removing the nut, the pulley slid right off by hand - no puller was needed. Maybe I was lucky? Dunno....

Most difficult part was locating a socket to fit the nut! (The nut is 2-1/2".)

Depends... Took the front pulley off of my SMTA twice, once to get to cam gear and then later to do bearings. First time it came off pretty good. Second time I broke the pulley. Think it works best if you can use puller, need to get toward hub not just on the outer part. Takes a very large socket on the nut, think it was 2 1/2 inch, there is a keeper on the nut you have to bend up first.
