Dar, Put the tractor on level area, where you can roll it in neutral, back and forth easily by hand. That or jack up each wheel individually to check, your choice. What I always did when replacing the bands, as you probably seen when you put them in the cover, the end where the pin fits in is not curved properly to conform with the brake drum. Now when you install that cover assembly, it will drag to some extent. Before you start make sure that both brakes are backed off with know drag, and do one at a time. What you do is, loosen the adjusting screw and locknut on the cover. With the adjustment backed off so you can freely move the tractor, or wheel, slowly bring that adjusting screw up from the bottom, till you feel a slight drag, then back off till just free. Then adjust the pull rod on the brake arm so that you can push the pedal hard and apply the brake hard enough that you can stop the tractor from moving. That done, drive the tractor around a little with that brake on hard for a short time. This seats the band to conform to the drum.After it cools, readjust the screw from bottom till it drags, back slightly, and tighten locknut, then ad just pull rod for pedal to free clearance of maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch free travel from platform. Now adjust the other side the same way. Then readjust it as I told you before. Their should be know drag when adjusted properly. Those brakes adjusted in that manner, if you do not ride them intentionally, will last you as long as you own the tractor.Good luck Dar.
