Unknown lever on a 41 H

Just picked up a 41 H today. It is my first Farmall of that era so I am a little unfamiliar with them. On the right side there is a long rod from the operators platform that extends to a lever that rotates a shaft inside of the bellhousing. Does this control the hydraulic pump? Dont have a operators or parts manual yet, but I will be getting one real soon.
Thanks

Yup. That's the control to the Lift-all pump for your hydraulics. You may want to have the manual before you operate that one. You certainly want to make sure you have fluid in the hydraulic reservoir before operating. Since you just bought it, now would be a good time to start clean - change the hydraulic fluid. Fill it to the top of the crosshatched area on the dipstick - I think it's six quarts. The dipstick can be found just behind where that lever attaches to the bell housing, only on top. Perhaps by the time you're done with that, you'll have your manual.

Actually the pump runs all the time the clutch is engaged so if it is out of oil, it is running dry whether you pull the lever or not.

So, what exactly does the lever do? My H has a loader on it and moving the lever didnt seem to have any effect on anyting.

Pull it back to put pressure on the port, push it forward to let oil back in, the middle position holds the cylinder in position.

You are correct, that rod controls the hydraulic pump.

In Addition to the other posts, the Transmission must be rotating. in neutral, or in gear moving, for the pump to work. It is (without special plumbing) a simgle acting system. Leaver away from driver (full in) is release pressure. lever hooked on detent bump on rod (1/2 way) is hold pressure in cyl. Rod pulled out is up. Rod will self return to hold (if the little spring is still on the rod hole) when the syl. travel ends, or the pressure goes beyond a preset limit. Good lifting,
