I need to get painting a large amount of Farmall Parts, big and small. Any advice on sprayers, sandblasters, cooking ovens, etc.? What would the minumum equipment be?

Thanks,

Scott

If you already have an air compressor you will be happy with spray guns you can buy for $50 anywhere. Of course you will need a pressure regulator but they are not expensive. I've painted a lot of tractors over the years, never used a line dryer or a sandblaster. I bake food in my oven. And you will never get enought paint on with spray cans. Use them only for touch-up.

If you want to really keep it simple just use aerosol cans. The next step up would be a simple siphon feed spray gun such as Cambell-Hausfeld makes. In my opinion there really is not much need to go beyond the basics unless you will be painting professionaly. The main thing to remember for excellent results is preparation. Getting any surface ready for paint is much harder work and more time consuming than actual painting.

Can I buy primer in an aerosol can?

Yes, if you get you paint from a Case-IH dealer, the primer will be on the shelf right next to the paint.

When I rebuilt the power steering on my 300U, I used the Case/IH rattle can paint to repaint the gas tank, dash and p/s unit. I was concerned about resistance to gasoline and oil, and sure enough, when I put gas in the tank, the few dribbles that got on the paint wrinkled the paint. But after it cured for a couple months it seemed to be impervious to gasoline.

As for primer, I used rattle-can automotive primer from an auto parts store. I used light gray, because the red seems brighter that way, but if you use red oxide primer, any scratches in the color coats won't show near as much.
