We were watching Max Armstrong's Video of a tractor drive and after sevaral H's and M's, my "Better Half" asked a question that I could not answer: Why are the front wheels slanted?

Narrower to fit between the rows. Also in muddy conditions, the slanted tires tend to not ball up between the tires better. Eaier to steer dur to the angle.

Don't know for sure but suspect partly for the same reason the front tires on your car are towed in-so it goes straight forward and doesn't pull left or right. You'll notice that they are slanted to the rear also, equivelent to the caster on the front of you car. Also if you run over something with one rear tire both fronts tend to stay on the ground as the contact point with the ground is close together. Dave

Sounds like you got a good start. The next step is to have her give you a hand.

the tire on the inside of the turn will bite into the ground better and bring the machine around.

Turns easier and fits between rows better.

It is done to make it easier to steer. With the bottom of the tires closer together it takes less effort to turn, and there is less shock from one wheel hitting an rock, rut, etc. Thwe oplder F series, etc weren't slanted as much, and they would kick the wheel out of your hands if you weren'thanging on tight.

Assuming you are talking about a narrow front with two wheels, if they were straight they would be about a foot or more apart where they touch the ground and 6" outboard of the turning centerline of the steering shaft. That means if one wheel hit a rock there would be a violent feedback to the steering wheel possible ripping it out of your hands. Of course this isn't such a problem with power steering models but that came later. The closer the wheels came together at the ground the better.
You'll notice the ones with a single front wheel have it directly over the shaft.
