Can anyone help me trouble shoot my wiring on my 49 C??? Got her all restored painted , all new fluids, and have no spark at the plugs. Points are gapped correctly. The two wires on my coil are as follows: + side is going to the side of distributer, and the - side is running back to switch. What is my order of trougle shooting??

Did the lamp test and no light. Tried the straight wire off the starter and she fired right up. I guess I must have a bad switch. You guys have been very helpful. Thanks again, Larry

Assuming it is still positive ground, your wiring sounds correct. Check for power with a test light, on the (-) post of the coil.

If you have power there, put the test light on the (+) (distributor) side of the coil, and try to start the engine. The test light should flash "ON" and "OFF" as the points open and close.

If the test light NEVER comes on, it indicates a short in the points/condensor area, or points that are not opening.

If the test light is "ON", and NEVER blinks "OFF" as the engine is cranking, it indicates an "open" connection in the primary circuit to the points, points not closing, or dirty points.

First off are you sure you are getting power from the switch to the coil, I.E. bad switch. Hot wire it and see if you have spark, if you do then your problem is from the coil back to the battery, if you don't then you have a problem in the dist.
