BOUGHT A FARMALL H NOT TO SURE EXACTLY HOW THE HYDAULIC SYSTEM WORKS. AS YOU ARE SITTING ON THE SEAT ,THERE IS ONE LINE TO THE RIGHT THAT ANGLES AND GOES TO THE BACK. THEN ON YOUR LEFT SIDE, THERES TWO CONNECTORS THAT ARE RIGHT BY THE CASTING. QUESTION IS CAN YOU USE A HYDUALIC CYLINDER WITH TWO LINES GOING TO IT.OR ARE YOU LIMITTED TO ONE LINE CYLINERS.AND APPROX. HOW MUCH HORSE POWER DO THESE MACHINES HAVE? CAN THEY PULL 12ft TRANSPORT DISC? THANKS DARREN.

The two ports on the front can be used for implements that need two cylinders. A front cultivator and a rear mounted plow come to mind. The rear port on the left side can be used also, but was put there primarily for a delayed lift on rear mount cultivators. The hydraulics are not live (unless you have a pump in front of the distributer) and are one-way -- pressure up, gravity down. Don't run two of the ports to a single cylinder, it won't work. If you use a 2-way cylinder with it, you run one hose and vent the down port. There was a factory remote valve (Christmas tree) that gave 2-way hydraulics, or you can use an aftermarket spool valve. The gasoline verision has 25 drawbar HP, there are increased power pistons and sleeves available. If by 12 foot transport disk, you mean a tandem disk the answer is no. The H will handle about a 8 foot tandem disk, if you want any depth at all. We ran a 6 foot heavily weighted in 3rd gear. the wider the disk, the less depth you are going to get. Turn your caps off.

Darren,

They originally were configured for one way cylinders only.

It will never pull a 12 foot disk. 8 foot is about all they'll handle. I think they are rated at maybe 25 horse, but I also think that is crowdin' it a little. They are no powerhouse; designed more for haying, cultivating, mowing, etc.

I was able to pull a 15 foot disk with my 1950 farmall H. It pulled it pretty well.

15 foot? straight disk or tandem? Did you actually put it in the ground?

They were a powerhouse in the era in which they were designed-2nd most powerful row crop IH built, only the M was bigger in the 40's early 50's. I consider the 25 hp rating conservative -- but then I don't have a 966. We pulled a 3 disk plow (equivalent to a 2-bottom moldboard) with it, usually 6-8 inches deep, in 2nd gear. Had 2 one-way cylinders, when the seals go bad, it squirted oil out the grease zerks -- my mother really liked washing my clothes after that.

Hi CN,

Sure hope I didn't sound like I was putting the H down, 'cause I'm not. One of my favorite tractors of all time. :>)

I disagree. I pull a JD RWA 12' with mine in plowed ground at full depth. Bellows like you would not believe outta that 3.5 in straight pipe. I run mounted duels and a wide front. 32 h.p. on the dyno at the show.

You are talking about one row of gangs, not two as in a tandem disk.
