Drawbar for a 140 hi-clear

I'm using a pull-type 5' shredder behind my 140 hi-clear. Its got the standard drawbar that I got from a junkyard. The hitch point is only about 4" behind the end of the pto shaft. When using the bush hog I'm afraid to make any more than the slightest turn because the gears in the 140's gearbox start to make a lot of noise and vibration increases a lot. Do I have the wrong drawbar? Can I make turns with less strain on the gearbox with a drawbar extension that puts the hitch point at least 14" behind the pto shaft?
Something's not right about my hook-up.
Thanks for any suggestions.

If you want to make a hitch plate, I can send you a scan of an original. Email me and I can sent it.

Unless you can find one of the hitch plates Jim speaks of, best idea is make one. They are tapered and wide enough at drawbar crossbar to bolt on using two bolts. Make it so you use a hole on crossbar as well as second hole from the first. (about 5" to 6" apart, much easier to keep tight than two consecutive holes) Also drill holes to match holes in crossbar and use bolts to match.

Make this hitch plate long enough so drawbar pin hole at end will be 14" from end of PTO shaft. The plate should be 5/8" thick, 7" wide at point where it bolts to cross bar tapering to about 3" at hitching end. I will suggest making plate from 3/4" thick plate as you will be using mild steel, IH probably use forged steel.

You are supposed to use a hitch plate whenever you are using the PTO. The plate was originally supplied with tractors that came with a PTO.
