Primary Pump Gasket

Have this 400D that I removed the primary pump that feeds the injector pump --- I'm replacing the primary pump seal.

Took off the cover plate for the primary pump (which exposes the pump gears) and noticed a VERY thin clear gasket. I suspect it is about 1/128" thick. I know it is thinner than 1/64", because I have that material.

Problem: Nobody in the local community has material this thin. Anybody know where I can find it, or would 1/64" be OK? Or use permatex?

Give the guys at Connestoga Diesal in Pa. a call.
They have been very helpful to me. Even sent out an installation diagram with the gaskets.

I'd check with Case-IH or a good injection pump shop for the gasket first. If it's not avalible, use the 1/64".

Thanks for the tip.

Went to a gasket distributer recommended by a hydraulic shop and he knew right away what the material was made from -- a vegetable based gasket, 15/1000th thick. Said they have been using this stuff since the 1800s. Stocks it just for this reason. He simply GAVE me a piece 12" by 36". Couldn't believe it.

If you guys are familiar with Vellum paper, used in the old days for drafting --- that is what this stuff looks like.

Everything is good again.

There should be two of these gaskets together between that cover. If the cover gets worn enough, you can take one gasket out. I did this with my pump and it was to tight and twisted the pump shaft off. Good luck.

Thanks.

Mine only had 1 gasket, and it spins pretty well.

Noticed too much (I guess) play in the shaft end (gear end) where it wore enough inside the cover on the shaft end that if you pushed a little on the other end, it would bind up a bit when spinning. I put a little metal disk in the hole on the cover to take up the slack, and it now spins real smoothly. Hope I didn't do something that will bite me later. I can't see how the metal disk could ever come out.
