I have a recently acquired WD-9 that appears to have a fuel problem. I thought I had an injector problem, but after checking them, changing the filters, and checking the pump, they all seem to be fine. I have unburnt fuel seeping out between the head and the exhaust manifold of the #1 cylinder. It does seem to get better when it is under a load.

Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Thanks!

FOREVER RED!

If it has not seen much real work lately, just work the socks off it, No 1 runs cool, it may just be wet stacking. On the other like the other post pointed out, check for leaky valves ....

Does it have puffs of white smoke coming out of the exhaust when idling? If so, I would suspect that number one has low compression. Then it won't completely burn the fuel at idle, but the additional heat and engine speed you have when under a load will burn the fuel better. You can do a compression check through the spark plug hole. Another way to check quickly is to crank the engine over with the throttle in the off position and the engine in the diesel setting (not the normal start on gas setting). Listen as it cranks. If it speeds up in one spot, then you have a compression issue. If you suspect that, you can put no.1 on TDC and put compressed air through the spark plug hole and listen for where the air is escaping. Exhaust pipe?-exhaust valve is leaking. You get the idea.
