This past weekend, we had a pull sceduled to run at a local power show, and was cancelled. The guys that put on the power show said, that we took too much of the attraction away from the power show. Now, I know,, the restorers and classic owners are not fond of pulling tractors, When I went to this show, I found myself lost in the old world in which I will never ever see,, and most can remember. I respect that, I loved going to this show, and put on a pull, but,, i was upset to hear the responce about stealing the show. Could it be possible to live in harmony between pullers, and restorers? All of us with NIATPA sure did miss having that pull with you power show gentleman at power of the past, The way I see it, is pulling is a different kind of power show, we have nicely restored classics, and some highly modified that have said, they loved having spectators come up and say that is a very nice tractor you have there!! Im not trying to start anything gentleman, I know some of the guys from this show are on here, and would like to try and work something out with you fellas for next year's show! I do honestly belive that pullers are a different type of power, if you older fellas remember, it was you, who got all us younger generations to do something with grampa's ol tractors, and some, just dont have a farm to use them, and have to go with a different option with our antique tractors. My personal opinion is, at the antique tractor shows the tractors should be pulling as though they were just brought in from the field. That is without all the extra weights hanging on the wheels, off the sides of the frame, and 'souping' up the engines. After all, was this the way the tractors were used on the farm? Loaded tires and maybe a couple of wheel weights bolted on for extra traction. A draft horse club held a show here a couple of weeks ago. I met up with an old acquaintance and we got talking about shows and her mother told me a lot of the old timers to our local show will not be going this year because all the emphasis is on the tractor pulls and all the modern tractors that keep 'invading' the pull. It is acutally no longer an "antique" tractor pull. It is slowly becoming a modified tractor pull that you see at the county fairs. But like I said this is only my opinion. I am slowly learning how 'backward' my thinking is from the rest of the world.

We have classes for the out of field tractors, we have more farm stock tractors pulling than modified tractors. We dont have tractors newer than 1957, This particular power show is an awesome event here in Northern Indiana, I just feel its too bad the other antique tractors of a different nature cannot strut their stuff along with their brothers from yesteryear still in working clothes. LOL! I think I can say that the power show is the main attraction, and we as antique pullers never thought that our pulls were bigger than the power show, its just plain ol good entertainment, with our antique tractors. Yeah, I do belive politics may be at hand here, But why is that? Its antique tractors, its good people showing and sharing what we all love, to me, its all about the tractors, whether it pulls a plow, or a pulling sled, they are not sitting in a fencerow rusting away to be forgotten. I agree with rusty on this one. They've been pullin' just about as long as there have been tractors. I say if they're being restored OR pulled OR farmed with, they're not going to scrap.All are a part of our farm heritage.mark

Makes me wonder if anyone can remember the first tractor pull ever held. I bet, it was in the 40's! A long tradition kinda being snubbed by its own comunity that started the whole thing. Sure hope we can come back to the Power of the past event and be brothers in the same cause,,, remembering old history, and making new as we go along. Chad

I guess it's ok for everyone to have their own opinion about tractor pulling. Personally I feel that there is room for both the pullers and people with other interests at the same show. After all, there has been tractor pulls almost since there was even such a thing as tractors, before that the farmers were competing against one another to see who had the best team of horses. The real beauty of a power show is that if one thing doesn't hold your interest, there are plenty of other things to do.

I sure hope that's not the reason for the pull being cancelled. If the pull was "stealing the show" it was also probably bringing in alot more people that would otherwise not have come to the event. Less people coming to a show equals less money coming into the event which unfortunately, alteast from what I've seen, results in smaller shows in the future.

Personally I like looking at old tractors, be it restored, original, pulling, farm, etc. and would never hook my '47 M to a pulling sled. But at the same time I'd never completely restore my M, putting it back to original, either. It's a farm tractor and it farms. It'll pull a hayrack in a parade but other than that it doesn't get displayed much, it just works.

My point being, to each there own. Some restore, some farm, some pull. In my mind it would benefit everyone and draw more people to appreciate our old tractors if we got along and played together.

But if a group of people wants to display their tractors and exclude other peoples tractors, well, it's there show... I guess it's time for you to put on your own event and display your tractors. I know it's much easier said than done, but where there's a will there's a way. And if your tractors "steal the show" your event will be one to see!

Just don't exclude other peoples tractors as you have been excluded. Make it open for all old tractors. In other words treat others as you want to be treated.

Good point, but I am not one for segregation (spelling). We welcomed anyone who came from the power show to hook up and try it out. It made one huge class when they did enter. Those owners were proud to hook up with us and share the fun. We all should come together, sit down and figure out a way to coexist amongst the world of antique power. We are never bigger than the cause, nor, do we forget where these tractors came from. What it comes down to is we all love tractors, all colors, all sizes, any Horsepower, I guess, if they do want ot seperate antiques from antiques, more POWER to em??? I sure hope not. Chad
