I just bought 2 "disc, friction, hand control lever" from IH and they are cork. Is that correct. When I look at my current setup, I don't see any cork and I expected them to be metal. My touch control hand levers slide from time to time and I already tightened the little screw so I believe I need to change the friction disk but a little cork doesn't seem like it would do much. Thanks Ramon

My Super A had cork orignal. The lever has a metal disk made on it and the cork fits "inside". You have to take it apart to see what I mean. It made a lot of difference on the Super A.

Did you get my e-mail on the fertilize distributer?

Hugh and Daniel, Thanks, it just seemed to me like cork might not do much but if you guys says it does, experience counts for more than conjecture ;-) Daniel, I thought I sent an email back to you but maybe it got lost. I would love to get a copy of the chart you made that converts the feed rates. I am going to pick up my side dresser hopefully next week after I pick up my "new" 1985 Chevy Farm truck (which will make my wanna-be-farmer life much easier). I am still looking for an A-144 Cultivators manual as I just have my "Farm Implements for use with Farmall 100" book, which mostly focuses on Fast hitch stuff. I see a 1-F11 Rotary Hoe, which is a super cool monstrosity but it's one point and mounts behind the tractor. I don't see any other rotary hoes. Maybe you are talking about the rolling cultivators that mount under the belly on the tool bars. You use two of them. Here is a picture of what I am talking about

Cheers Ramon

Once you figure out the set up on those rolling cultivators you will LOVE them. I got a set an they make your garden look like you went through with a hoe. The will throw the dirt right to the center and by changing the angle you can control how aggressive they are. I'm still playing with mine.

The rotary hoe I'm looking for goes between the 144 cultivators, you can evn use it as a rolling sheild by removeing some of the wheels. It hangs from the front eyelets behind the square tube on the front and has a singlr lift rod/springup to the rockshaft.

You can get that manual from Binder Books for the 144. Good people to deal with.

Who makes those? Where did you get them? How wide are they? How much do they cost?

A bunch of questions, I know, but I am far enough into this weed-growing season to be getting serious about some mechanical cultivation upgrades for next year!

Thanks!

Mark

Mark I have seen the at the local IH Dealer but I think Agri-Supply may have them as well. I think they usually run about $100 or $150 a piece but you may find them used much cheaper. Be advised though, my understanding is that they take some practice. I have some but I haven't had the courage to use them yet as I am still learning to use the standard ones and I usually crawl in 1st gear and still knock down plants and rows ;-( That being said, if you have a big garden/farm, I know folks who swear by them as apparently if you have them set right, you can cruise in 3rd gear and cultivate beautifully and it tosses the dirt up on the plant to add some hilling to it. As for specs, they are about one and a half feet wide each. The pretty much cover the whole underbelly of the tractor with the exception of your row. Good luck Ramon

Ramon: I have a bunch of those here, look like cork, came from CaseIH as replacments. They do work, as I put new ones on 130 about 12 years ago. I think I bought about a dozen at the time, thinking they wouldn't last as well as the originals. So far, so good.
