Tractor Vet or others; 966 noise continued

Hi Doc,

No, they didn't put in a new T/A or do anything to either tranny; just the new PTO input gear to the pressure plate and a new set of brakes.

When the load "floats out" there is absolutely no noise at all. It comes in with the "pull" and is in all 8 gears both with the T/A and without. Also, both in forward or reverse.

It has the normal "de-acceleration" whine, which makes me think that the ring and pinion are okay.

Just sounds like tired old bulls to me. Also, that 2" thick drawbar hole is somewhat egg shaped showing it has really had to pull in the past.

Also, I don't know if it means anything or not, but I can hear that rear pump running all the time in the background. Kinda like an itch I can't scratch.

I don't recall my old 966 having that constant "hydraulic" sound going on all the time.

Dunno,

Allan

Also,

Had all the hydraulics flow-rated and everything is at the high end of the specs.

They had to fix a lot of hydraulic "leaks" and put on a new clutch booster. Axles, bearings and seals are all good.

Like I say, you can't tell this tractor from one just unloaded off the railcar, except for that "louder than normal" gear thing going on under pull.

It really is more of an "irritant" than a real "problem", I guess and the only other thing I can see wrong with the tractor is that one remote has a slight "weep" at the little handle o-ring.

Allan: Just cruising around the boards here tonight. My gosh your awfully quiet when your busy farming. Is that a case of long hours in the tractor seat or long hours of sleep as you cant hack it anymore.

Now don't take this the wrong way, I understand how a 60+ year old carcass works. Not as well as it did 30 years ago.

Yeah,

Wouldn't ya know, get a new toy to play with and the "real job" gets busy to the hilt.

Not complainin' tho, it is what pays the bills so gotta keep my nose to the grindstone. :>)

Finally got out there tonight and the neighbor was cuttin' wheat right across the fence in his quarter of mil combine.

Wife had never seen one up close so he gave her a trip around the quarter to show her how it worked. She was impressed with the size of the cab and all the extra seating. Said it was like sitting in the living room here at home. :>)
