I am looking to find out how to check all of my fluid levels on my farmall H as on the 21st i am going on a tractor cruise my town is having. I know how to check the engine oil. But i never checked the rear end oil. I am suspecting it is good since ive been running it and no problems but were do i check it from? And if it is low what do i add? Another thing is my hydraulic pump has been leeking alot. I dont use it anymore and that could be the problem. Were do i check oil on this and what do i add?

Kevin, If you are going to disconnect the drive coupling to your hydraulic pump you can just drain what remains in the pump through the drain plug on the bottom of the pump. It will be fine empty with the drive coupling removed and that will stop the source of leaking hydraulic fluid. Also, several folks use non-detergent 30 wt. oil in the pump which might not leak as bad as hydraulic fluid. You might want to also just change out your transmission/differential fluid if it hasn't been changed in several years. Depending on the climate where you live (and if the tractor is stored outside) it tends to collect water. You can check for the presence of water by loosing the drain plug to the point where fluid can seep out. You should be able to see if you have water present after the tractor has set overnight by what seeps out around the drain plug. If it is milky colored you have water present. Have fun on your tractor cruise.

If you don't need the hydraulic pump and it leaks bad you can unhook it so it does not turn and you won't need to worry about kepping it full. There is a plate between the pump and the rear end under the tradctor that bolt on with two bolts, take it off and you will see a round shaft with a collar on each end. Take the bolts or cotter pins out of the collars and slide the collars to the middle of the shaft and you can slide the shaft up and down or sideways and take it out. the pump will no longer turn.

I just went through all my fluids on my 1945 H. The rear end check level is a plug located under your feet just in front of the left tire when your in the seat. You fill it in the plug on the floor by your feet. About a two inch plug. When it starts coming out your check plug on level ground you know its full. Use 80/90 gear lube. Should hold around five gallons. Your hydraulic has a fill cap on the right side of your tractor near your starter. A cap with a dip stick. Holds about 6 quarts. And use regular hydraulic fluid.

The cap for the Hydrualic pump doesnt have a dipstic. I may just disconect that. Is it alright to add new fluid in the rear end to the already existing fluid?
