Have restored a Model H. Had the tractor up and running for a while then turned off. Went to start the tractor again, and nothing. NO electricial power any where. The lights don"t work, engine won"t turn over, nothing. Have checked all grounds, all new wiring, new ignition switch, new solonoid, new battery and still no electricial power. What gives????

is this resolved yet ?.....with a good battery you should have power @ ign. switch. did someone put a fuse inline somewhere ? with switch on, power also @ distributer post withpoints open. tractor should turn over even with ign. sw. off, just wont start w/o power to dist. if everything is as dead as you say,...it sounds like a dead battery or very bad ground. i would hook up starter pack or jumper cables and see if lights come on if you cant check the battery. if lights come on with that you will have an idea. good luck

Just a thought --- I had a short in the starter solenoid case that drained the battery in a short time. The case got hot as heck and I noticed it by chance (aka a burn to my hand). This is probably a very rare problem.

You can determine if it is shorted by putting an ohmmeter from each of the two major solenoid terminals to the frame (disconnect battery). It should read infinite ohms.

If the tractor was shut off, and there was just a few minutes between shutting it off, and trying it again, their is a totally bad connection, or most probably a bad battery. There is no way for a battery to use all its energy in a short time with out heating somthing up to smoke. Use a volt meter set on 20 volts DC and check across battery from lead post to lead post. If nothing, it is dead, and must be charged (sooner is better than tomorrow).
If it shows 13 volts, or so, use the meter to trace connections. Turn on the lights and put the meter leads from the lead post on the grounded side of the battery to the terminal that is attached there. (you are looking for a bad connection by observing voltage where there should be none. Then go from the lead terminal to the far end of the ground cable (not the bolt head, the metal terminal "EYE". If nothing then go to the frame of the tractor (a bare metal spot) if still nothing, you have got a good ground system. THen do the same on the non-ground side checking wires and terminals (from the lead post of the battery. When you find ~12-13 volts, you have forun the break. If the battery was dead, and several hours went by, There may be a battery drain. Several prior posts on this site explain the checks for that issue. I hope this helps. Jim Nicholson

You need heavy duty battery cables and make sure
all rust and paint is removed in the area where
your ground cable is and is tightly secured. Clean all battery terminals and battery cable spades. If you still have the 6 volt system these old tractors used a positive battery ground.

Have you checked the battery? Use a volt meter
and measure the battery voltage of that new battery. There has to be voltage somewhere unless that battery is stone dead. Hal
PS: Post back with the voltage reading.
