I bought a farmall 140 today, 1966 model, went to buy a super a but found this one with new paint, rear tires, good cultivators and a like new fertilize dropper for $1,800. Tractor starts and runs good, one owner that came with the original books. question is will a steering wheel off a super a fit it?? this steering wheel is so big i have a hard time getting on and off, other thing is where in the heck is the tempature gauge??? i've looked all over for it but can't find one, its a 12 volt by the way. what horsepower is the tractor, manual doesn't tell. I'm a JD man but the IH sure is nice too, esp cultivating

What a deal!. Parts book shows 15" dia. wheel to fit Cub, Farmall A,B,C Super A, A1, SN 250001-355669) repaces: 60069D, 46512DA
2 3/4" dish, 3/4 "keyed shaft"

17 5/8" dia. 3/4 "Keyed hub", wheel fits 100, 130, 200, 230, 300, 400, Super A (SN 3560D up) C, Super C (SN 75098 up) H, M. MD, W4, W6, W9, repaces: 60070D

Both are 3/4" but what "keyed hub" means and "keyed shaft' izz would be the difference
I installes a temp gauge on my 100 and used a aftermarket 5 of 6 ft' gauge and ran it back to the lowere part of the steer'n support cuzz I wuz not gonna pay big bucks fer the OEM type.
mine had the 3/4 pipe plug fer the OEM in the neck neer the thermostate, yers my not have had it. It does run cool and I am a gauge watcher and don't understand why sum tractors do not have a gauge so I install'em on all my tractors so I will have a I'de when sum'ins not normal

Everybody including my uncle said i would like this tractor a lot better than a Super A but i just don't think thats true, I know its about the same but there is just something about the SA i like, its smaller, and kinda reminds me of an H or M with the grill and hood. I may hold on to this and use it till a super A comes along, surely i can get my money back out of it, gave it a bath last night and boy it looks like it rolled off the showroom floor

"The Super A is smaller?" Ummm... No, it's not.

They're the SAME EXACT tractor, except for the hood. Yeah yeah yeah, you nit-pickers can find all kinds of minor differences like horsepower, the bigger engine, water pump, etc. etc. etc., but for all intents and puroposes they're the same tractor.

I wondered that same thing myself! I think Paul is right. They figured it didn't need gauge. I'm like you, I think there should be a gauge so I added one. Like Paul said, They run to the cool side aanyways! I've run it with lights on and pto engaged and still only get it just barely in the run range! This is during mid 90's weather! And up and down the road! When I finish restore I'll have a chance to really work her! Have fun with your new purchase! I love My old 140! Later! Scott

mitchp, I don"t think I have ever seen an A, 130, or 140 equipped with a temp gauge except those configured for distillate or kerosene. The reason they were installed on those models was that distillate or kerosene required the operator to adjust the radiator shutters also installed on those tractors to regulate and increase the engine temperature to effectivly burn the low grade fuel. Gasolene models didn"t require that process, so temp gauges werent installed unless the owner decided that for his own edification he would install one. Unless you have a lot of rust built up in your engine block which may inhibit the flow of coolant, you have little to worry about as those tractors tend to run, if anything, on the cool side.

Don't hold me to this, but I believe they're different. The S/A wheel uses a woodruff key and I think the 140 will have a splined wheel. Someone else may correct me on this.

TDK: I have a feeling you are correct. My steering wheel is tight and in good condition, so I really don't want to remove it just to find out. Had my 560 wheel off once and that steering wheel hub cover would never stay tight afterwards.

Mitch: Very close in hp to the SA, in 1968 IH were calling it 23.7 pto and 21.3 drawbar. I don't have figures for SA in front of me, but close to 20 hp. SA was 113 cu inch, 140 is 123 cu inch. Most of these tractors never had a temperature gauge.

I've owned 6 of these little tractors in my lifetime and currently still have SA, 130 and 140. I can't tell much difference in performance, my SA will lug right along with the other two.

I cant give you an answer on the steering wheel. I've never had steering wheel off my 140. Wheel has the large hub which makes it look different. I know the SA and 130 steering wheels will interchange, but styling is also the same.
