The canvas is correct. It is harder to keep clean. I usually keep a plastic trash bag on mine when not at a show. The vinyl is easily cleaned, but the first time you sit on it out in scorching sun you'll know why IH used canvas. The best advice is - it's your tractor, used the type you like the best.

TDK,

They used canvas because vinyl wasn't even dreamed up yet when these old letter series tractors were built.

You're probably right Allen. But I was thinking that they were still using the same material up to '58, for the same reason I stated.

The first trime you sit down on a wet seat youll wish you had the vinyl.

Allan is correct -- I have both, I don't like the canvas because it gets dirty easier and is next to impossible to clean. It also won't last long if you use it a lot. The canvas on the old Farmalls was the 1st thing to go, I doubt if the new seats are any better.

Hay thanks for the info. This will be my first H. most of my projects have been green. But when I found this jem off of a little tobaco farm. I just could not pass it up. Tight stearing, perfict tin (minus two little dings in the grill), perfict fenders, never repainted, like new light bar tool box, pTO guard, and runs great. All for only $900. Shure beats the green prices!!

Sounds like you got a bargain -- The two places I will deviate from OEM are seats and paint, and perhaps a 3-point hitch.

Oxi-clean (couple scoops) and a little dish soap and water (hot), scrub thoroughly, rinse, repeat if needed. Let dry COMPLETLY. Made our canvas seat look like new again. Now if I can only keep the shop cat off it when we're not looking!
