Recently at antique tractor show I saw a Farmall F-16. It looked like a H except for the old fashoned hood and open steering gear. Was this a clever fake or a very rare tractor?

That is a fantastic link. Thanks for posting. You can see a F-15 and an F-22 on page 5, but no F-16. The best is the F-10 on page 4. I always thought the F-12 was short enough on power :)

That tractror was at the RPRU in Ia last year. Made up from F series and H tractors. Somethiong like the SHTA, and the Super A with a single front wheel at the same show.

While it is difficult to conceive of any F-16 being flown with an open steering wheel configuration, even more intriguing is your claim of an old fashioned hood. Equally outlandish would be any claim that it made use of all steel wheels.

As to verifying it's authenticity, look on this so called "open hood" for some sort of voluptous pin-up girl decal, and some indication of missions flown.

The F-16 pioneered the use of the "Face-Up Display" or FUD, that was later copied by the aerospace industry, and renamed the "Heads-Up Display" or HUD, common in fighter jets today.

Probably a clever fake, although I have seen photos of IH experimentals and prototypes that are very similar to what you describe. I think I found them in the Wisconsin IH archives. I'll see if I can provide a link.

that is a really neat site, although i found a mistake. on page eight they list an international 8-16 as a mogul 8-16. a lot of difference between those two tractors.

I agree that the photo should have a bit more captioning, but before you say that the caption is inaccurate, take another look at that photograph, especially the hood and gas tank.

yes hood tapered with radiator behind the engine and gas tank on top, 8-16 international. 8-16 mogul has a 16 horse hit and miss engine tank cooled with no radiator or hood. but i guess they must have still called this prototype a mogul.
