Cub keeps cutting off! Help!

My cub keeps cutting off after a couple of minutes of running hard. It cranks right back up and starts the process all over. I can run the tractor at full throttle while sitting still and it will run forever. I put the tractor in gear and run the tractor at high throttle and it will go a couple of minutes and shuts down. Giving it choke does not even help. It cranks up very easy cold also. A little history is that the carb has been rebuilt and also a total engine overhaul. This is the first time I have used the tractor after the rebuild. Thanks in advance.

You need to check for a hot spark at the sparkplug when the tractor dies. Have someone to
try and start the engine while you hold the plug wire away from the plug. Should be a hot spark.

If this tractor has been converted to 12 volts
and has a ballast resistor it may be shot.
Try a new condenser, but it could be a weak coil.

The coil is new and has had new points and condensor during the rebuild. I am stumped on what to do next. It cranks right back up after it cuts off! Sounds like it runs out of gas.

If you're sure you're getting fire to the plugs after it quits running, check for gas flow to the carburetor. Loosen the tube nut at the carburetor inlet and see if you have a good flow or just a drip. Could be blockage in the tank from dirt or rust. Make sure the gas cap is vented. Remove it to see if that keeps the engine running. I would drain that tank into a container and check for dirt, then inspect tank with a good flashlight. Remove the coil wire from the cap and hold within 1/4" of a good ground. With the ignition switch on and the points closed snap those points open & closed a few times and check for fire at the coil wire.
Do this when the tractor quits running. Coils and condensers may start an engine when cold, then quit working after heating up. Is this still 6 volt or converted to 12? Hal

The tractor is still 6 volt. I will check these things and hopefully fix it. Got 2 acres that needs mowing. Thanks for the help so far.

The Cub is probably running out of gas!!! The fuel line isn't a very good place to check fuel flow... remove the 1/8" pipe plug from the bottom of the carburetor that is there for that purpose. Doing it that way will check the carb inlet screen and also make sure the needle is opening as it should. Look for a continuing good flow after the little in the float chamber runs out.

I took the plug out of the bootom of the carb and a gush of gas comes out then slows down to barely more than a steady drip. I guess the float is to high causing the needle to not open all the way? Which part of the float needs to be bent?

I would check the gas flow where the gas line is connected to the carburetor. Make sure there's no blockage between carburetor and tank. Check the inlet to the carb. it may have a screen too.
Your float may be ok. Hal
