Got a WD6 I'm trying to get going for a friend. Usually starts on gas with no problem, but I'm not getting any spark at the points. We pulled the cap off and turned the engine over to check for spark. I'm new to mags, any advice appreciated.

The Cowman has the answer, anytime I have taken a mag to have it looked at, the guy cleanns the points and it fire, now I do it myself and its never failed...Mike in Exeter Ontario

The Cowman is probably right on those dirty points, after cleaning them, check that point gap. Should be .013" and then remove the coil wire from the cap and hold within 1/4" of good a clean ground. Have someone crank the engine with the starter and you hold the coil wire. You may want to use a pair of insulated pliers, so you don't get bitten. If you have a good spark your engine should start then. Make sure your mag isn't being grounded, not sure how, but it could be a switch. There has to be a way to shutdown
the gas engine and the mag is grounded to do this.

clean the points. you should get a good blue spark out of the coil terminal on top. You won"t see a spark at the points themselves
