Well guys, thanks to all who replied earlier on in the week about the farmall I had with a flooding problem...guess what?? It"s still doing it. I took the tank off and it went to a rad shop where they cleaned it all out on the inside and then coated it with some sort of a fuel tank treatment to allow it any hidden garbage to be sealed. I"ve let it dry up and harded really good. I installed the tank and took everyones advice and put a new sediment bowl on, as well as an inline filter. I took the float out again and reset it up alittle higher, what does everyone else set there floats at??? reinstalled the carb. I cracked the gas on and everything filled up as it should, then drip by it it slowly ran out the carb, i tapped the side of the carb and it stopped. Fired the H up, and drove her around the yard in cirles for 20 mins, I thought, finally, I got this problem licked and I was going to park her, she started running choppy and smoking black. when I shut her down, nothing but a stream running out of the carb, I tried tapping the carb again, still ran out. Anyone heard of a carb with a internal crack that might do this or a defect in the casting?? I"m thinking next step is going to be a new carb!! Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys, you have all been great help!

Go to left hand column of this screen and click Parts and Pieces under "Galleries". Do a search for Zenith and select my Farmall Super A photo. I replaced the bottom half of the carb by a glass bowl. Might help you to determine whether the needle is the culprit or the float binding, etc. Also makes setting the float level a lot easier :-) Good luck. Hendrik

Well you said you reset the float up, well if you did that it means you set it so it would not shut off as fast. You need to set it per spec. or a litte lower. Also if its a new needle with the plastic end on it there is a little trick to get them to seat. With the needle in the seat you tap on it a couple times whcih get the plastic end to form to the seat and put it back togeather. I don't tell people about this often becasue if you tap to hard you can destory the plastic on the needle and then your in trouble.

Rusty Farmall, if you set the float to low, there is a chance that it could be snagging on the bowl of the carb is there not? I"ve just been adjusting the tab on the float to limit its down travel.

I have a rebuilt carb on an H. When installed, it leaked. I discovered the pin that the float pivots on was too short and allowed the float to slip off and drag on the inside of the bowl. Made a longer pin and it works fine.

The little tab is only for adjusting the float drop, or to limit how much it can go down. The float level is what shuts off the incoming fuel when the carb bowl is sufficiently full. The float level is adjusted by carefully bending the arm of the float, and is very critical. A GOOD carb kit includes very detailed instuctions on just how to do this.

The float level for an H carb is 1 27/32"
The float drop is 2 1/8"
It is possible that you have a crack which would cause the problem, but since you were able to tap the side of the carb and get it to quit dripping you can eliminate that possibility. Have you flushed the fuel line itself? Did you remove the inlet filter and clean it after the tank was cleaned? Is the float pin in good condition and does the float move freely on the pin?

sorry, last post was for OLD not rusty farmall..
Rusty Farmall this one is for you. I had the tank cleaned and coated and installed..with new bowl, I icut a short section out of the fuel line and installed a brand new fuel filter, when the line was on I throughly flushed it with brake kleen and compressed air, I removed the inlet screen off the carb, cleanned it and blew it out as well. my fuel is clean. I adusted the float up, thinking that when the bowl was filling up, the float travel distance would be shorter, shutting the fuel off asap. by looking inside the bowl I was thinking that maybe the float was jamming somehow on the side of the bowl maybe. I'm starting to get very discouraged. It's so wierd cause the tractor runs alike a top for 15-20 mins fine, then gets into this spell, and I can always tell when she is starting to flood because she starts smoking. And running poor.

Rusty probably answered it as good or better then I could. I'd say do it like he said and if you haven't done so get a kit. Also one other thing make sure you have the float seat tight, since it could be leaking gas from around it and causeing you the problems
