mitch: I'd clean that crankcase breather once per year, just do as scotty suggested. The J in your serial number stands for Rockford clutch. Most Farmalls after 1953-55 era have this clutch. My SA mid 53 production did not have J, but less than 5,000 units later, SA were factory equiped with J or Rockford clutch. My 130 and 140 both have J. The history of this is, IH did not have a great reputation on clutches, particularly larger tractors with loaders. Thus came the Rockford clutch. May I ask what the main uses you plan for this 140? Send me an e mail, just click on my name in the post, my e mail is exposed. I can really give you some suggestions on how to spend money on attachments for your 140. One other item, an expert I am not, maybe a guy with a lot of experience, particularly with these little offsets. Some of that experience was a bit expensive. I have owned 6 of the offsets in the past 45 years. Oh, I farmed with big tractors also, but most of those repairs were farmed out to IH and other repair shops. That doesn't gain you the same kind of experience as hands on repairs.
