I have been trying to figure out what I have here..First, let me say, these are the gears that are on the pinion shaft. The smallest, is marked "LO" right on it, and numbers 34 teeth. (I have another first gear out of another tractor that is 34 teeth, but does not say LO on it) The first gear out on my old 0-4 (which had alot of super series options, so maybe gearing too,) is the same casting number but has 35 teeth. Since it is bigger, does that mean it will give me faster ground speed in my standard H? I pull with it and want all the speed I can get. Can anyone give me the teeth count on 1-4 gears for a standard H, super H, and options like LO first gear? Basically, I think (my first problem) that I have a complete set of Super series gears, which should be faster, than what is in my puller now. I just want to make sure. thanks sooooo o much, Andrew

The countershaft gears drive the sliding gears. If you have a 34 tooth gear driven by a matched countershaft gear, when you go to a 35 tooth gear you will need a smaller countershaft gear, so a smaller driving gear will result in slower speed on the output.

One thing I know for sure, gears are matched in stock boxes in pairs. the replacement of one gear with a different gear with different tooth count will not work. If the meshing gear is part of a cluster, it drives the selection of all mating gears. Less teeth may look like they work, but they do not mesh at the pitch circle and they will break off pronto. more teeth will not mesh at all.
I hope this answers your question to a degree. Ide stick with a complete set Super, regular, or special suffex letter gears from the same tranny.

Jim Nicholson, I've been there and not had problems.

So special suffix gears have the letter stamped on the gear itself?

Stamped in marking (to my marginal knowledge) is inconsistent I ment from marginally whole tractors with main ID plates with serial numbers with a suffex indicating special gearing. I look these up. They are in the manual in the front I believe. or ask here.
Good luck I hope I cleared up my opinion,
Jim N
