How do you adjust the carb float to conform with the specs. set in the repair manual? 1 5/16" is the spec. Do no understand the adjustment process.

In addition to what RustyFarmall said, do a search in the 'Parts & Pieces' section of this web site (see link to the left) for "Zenith Carb Float Setting". It depicts how to test your settings with a glass jar. I haven't tried it but it looks like a time-saver being able to verify your float levels before you reassemble.

There are 2 specifications that need to be met. The first is float level. The float level is what closes the needle valve and stops the flow of fuel. To adjust the float level you will have to very carefully bend the float arm, in very slight increments until you have reached the desired spec. The second specification is float drop. The float drop will allow the needle valve to open enough to provide for a sufficient flow of incoming fuel, but not so much that the float touches the bottom of the fuel bowl. This is adjusted by bending the small tab on the outer end of the float arm, the tab actually contacts the needle seat. Again, bend in small increments until you have achieved the desired results. Both of these adjustments are equally important. It would be a lot easier to show you in person how to do it than it is to describe, but this is the best we can do.

I went to my local Farmall IHC (Case NH) dealer for a carb kit for my M. They sold me a needle and seat and bowl gasket. Said that is all I need. They may be right but I have no specs on setting the float and no instructions. What are the specs for height and drop and where do I measure from?
