Max:

Print out this form, fill it in, mail it in, sit back have a coffee (3 or 4 lbs) and be prepared to wait. It may take 6 months. Anthony Wayne Services (under contract from Navistar for this program) only ships the caps when a specific threshold of requests are recieved.

If you do not want to wait, then the Caps can be purchased at your CaseIH Dealer - they are about $30.00....

Me, I wait.....

Putter:

No problem, glad I could help. I know mostly only the Cub-a-holics would know this, the form has been on the Cub Manual Server or variations of the server for over 3 years now. You can find the server at www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/index.html.

Plus, there is all kinds of useful restoration and maintenance tips and techniques that will apply to just about any tractor.

The Electrolysis Tank seems to get a lot of hits....

Just got mine. It took two tries - one over a year ago and the other (after I'd heard that they can actually arrive) about six months ago. It's a fine gas cap but I think the processing of the requests get's done by a hamster who only works for a couple of hours each tuesday. Like the other post, lit included was marked 'Case'.

Well said Sammy. The fact remains Max that you stand about even chances at best of ever receiving your so called "free gas cap". Should you be so lucky as to receive it you can return to the forum and repost endlessly on the merits of the program. Otherwise, join the rest of us in seeing the program as some sort of snow job.

I'd like to hear from ONE person who has never received their FREE gas cap. It's always, "Waaah! Waaah! Waaah! I send my form in six days ago and never got my cap! Waaah!" Then six months down the line when they process the orders, it's "Ooop lookie here! I got a gas cap! Navistar is soooo cooolll!"

1. You can not get "cheated" on a FREE offer.
2. You are not "owed" a timely response on a FREE offer.

Snowjob on something FREE?
Heck I put serial number UNKNOWN for my Regular and they still sent me a cap. Took nearly 6 months and I'd forgotten all about it by the time they arrived, but what the heck, it was free.

Oh, for god's sake it's not a snow job.

The gas cap offer is part of a lawsuit settlement that International Harvester (now Navistar) entered into over some accidents. The newer caps prevent pressure buildup. They are especially important on the 300-400 tractors on up, where the gas tank has more sheet metal (insulation) around it and temperatures run higher.

Keep your shirt on friend. You must have a lot of your personal self worth wrapped up in those gas caps.

I am well aware of why the gas cap offer was initiated.

I realized all by myself without help from the board that the gas caps were ostensibly free.

Not delivering on a promised advertised article regardless of the reason, to avoid litigation or otherwise IS a snow job.

Them's the facts. You don't have to like 'em.

IH made a little over 5 million tractors. And they've probably sent out TEN MILLION "FREE Gas caps" I really hate to see this subject come up all the time. Only difference between the OEM cap fitted at the factory on these tractors and the "Freebie" is the free one has a second catch or latching bar so You can't remove it so fast. Like Guy said in His post, the Numbered series, 300/400 and everything thru the 66-series the gas/fuel tank extended out over the back half of the engine. If the tractor was gassed up when hot there was a lot of flammable vapor released when the cap was removed. And some individual smoking a cigarette tried to gas up His tractor one day 25 yrs ago.... and the rest is history. You all enjoy Your FREE gas caps

Special Chapeau for Breaking Wind? in reply to max adams , 08-25-2005 19:33:43
At one time, there was a program for providing free replacement gas caps for Farmalls, administered by Navistar. Evidently, after a long [6 to 9 month] delay, they"ve recently begun shipping the caps again...which has started people asking about the forms to send in to get a gas cap for themselves. I don"t know much about the program, but I"m guessing the replacement cap must be similar to the tall "triple-baffle" cap IH sold back in the 1960"s, from some of the complaints I"ve read about them.

Of course, the phrase "gas cap" means different things to different people.

ROFL Buzz.....I had to think about how you retitled your post. As it is...I was not aware until now that there was any special program being offered with regard to special headgear being offered for those who like to break wind. I question how many on this board will hasten to take advantage of such a benefit and the preventative measures it is actually able to deliver.

Not being sarcastic, but this comes up several times a month -- do a search for "gas caps", you will find more than you want to know.
