Wher are some of these guys coming up with these prices. I bought a good running S WD 6 a few years ago for $2000. Same with my 400D and a couple of M"s and a 600. The rest of "em were not running and the prices reflected it. I"m seeing tractors for sale all the time for 2 3 thousand and more, and oh by the way they don"t run, but they are rare. Makes me want to sell a few that I haven"t gotten around to fixing yet.

Geoff: I wouldn't get too excited about the asking prices on tractors you see for sale. Take YT photo adds for example, some of those folks have been asking that price for the same tractor for years. Take me for a second example, I want $5,000. for my Farmall 130, $6,000. for my Super A and $8,000. for my 140. That doesn't mean they are worth it. Apparently not, I still have them and have had for years. But then that suits me.

A nice looking SMTAD sold for $8600 yesterday on eBay.

I have been wondering whether a collector auction or an on-line auction is better for selling tractors. Some day I will have to liquidate and I have a couple of rare items.

I ran into a guy that had a F12 unsure of the year, this thing had a Ford Pinto engine and no rear wheels. He wanted $500.00 and by the way could I hurry up and get it out of his yard? I may never know what ever became of that tragic piece of machinery.

That was me. I was asking $300 for it. I bought it for the rear wheels. Someone had a lot of fun putting that contraption together. You can reference the YT photo ad. I sold it six hours after I listed it and a very enthusiastic fella came with his own steel wheels and picked it up the next day (driving it on the trailer). He loved the old Pinto engines. I never told anyone to "hurry up". Thanks "Blueberry Mike" for buying my tractor. I hope you can make it as nice as the rest of your Farmall f-series.

Ahhhh....it's merely a classic example of the "other idiot" principle at work: Any item (in this case old tractors) is worth exactly what some other idiot is willing to pay.

And apparently there's no shortage of idiots with lots of $$$ who lust after old iron!

Prices are kinda crazy some places, here in Canada I can buy a running wd 6 for about $500 at auction. Old tractors ( not John deere mind you) usually go for scrap iron prices. I am sure International will go up now though since JD is ridiculous.

Around here tractors are gold. A guy down the road has an early Super M for sale that is missing a lot of parts and is in poor shape. He wants $4000 for it!!! Go figure that it is still for sale after four years.
