My 706 starts to sputter and starve for gas as it leans over to the right (as sitting in seat). I have talked to mechanics and they say that this tractor was only meant for level ground and not inclines. When the tractor banks over to the left, it doesn't sputter and cough. It will also do it as you go up a incline. It is a gravity feed system, with the carb on the right, and fed from the tank on the left. People have recommended a fuel pump to pressurize the carb. I put a pump in line (3.5 psi), but it was worse. Do I need a higher pressure or what? Has anybody attempted to correct this problem?

I need to thank "jossette" and "gene b" for their excellent advice. I did tell the mechanic he was smoking dope. In examining the float to top cover support connection that the float pin hooks to-- There was a slight crack in the retaining side of that support, allowing the pin to move back and forth. When I rebuit the carb, the pin became disengaged from the support, and allowed the float to cock, thereby causing the goofy thing to tend to choke out with too much gas in a incline to the right or starboard. It would run ok to the left or port.

Well, I fixed that problem, and created another. It wouldn't run at all. After taking it apart several times, it dawned on me to see if somehow I might have bent the float wings one way or the tuther. I had. Fixed that problem and now I have a swell running 706 Farmall. Thanks to all who participated in this endeavor.

You need to check the gas tank and fuel line for any obstruction, it should operate on any slope
without the engine cutting out. Set the tractor
on a slope and loosen the gas line at the carburetor to see if you have good flow. If that's ok check the carburetor as some have suggested. Hal

First off, you're either on some pretty steep inclines or talking to someone who doesn't know tractors. Is all farm land perfectly level? Get rid of the pump, you don't need it. There's a problem with your carb still. Just because you rebuilt it doesn't mean it's fixed, we've all been there before. Is there any possibilty that some sort of restriction is floating around in your tank? Park it on an incline that makes it stutter and shut it off. Let it cool down and place a container under the carb. Remove the plug from the bottom of the carb bowl and see how much fuel drains in 10 seconds. Measure that amount and punch some numbers, should be flowing 6 gal/hour. Do that same check at the line into the carb, and keep working your way back to the tank until you find the restriction.

I'm sorry K.B., I forgot to mention my specific thanks to you. You are right, that mechanic was all wet. I did get rid of the goofy pump. If you have read my other followup message, you can see that there was a series of events that caused my problem, not to mention my contribution to the problem. Thanks again.

How does your expert think you can go up and down a hill if he thinks it has to be level? Check the floats to make sure they arent rubbing. Wouldnt be the first time a carb wasnt put together correct.

since the float is on the right side it only makes sence to me the float is set to high and flooding the carb. I know its a pain but measure that float..... ....ask the mechanic what dope he's smoking. not made for inclines. neighbor uses an 806 gas for ditches..???
