Thanks for everyones help last night. I now have spark and also got a spare mag working. The question I have is on my spare when I rotate the arm on the cover over the points in one direction it cuts the spark but on my main it will spark in either direction. I tryed a different cover over the points as well as the whole housing that has the wire that goes to the condenser. Were is this suppose to ground out when you want to shut the tractor off? Thanks once again Paul

Hi Paul, What problem did you finally find with your mag? Glad you have it fixed. Hal

I am really not sure what it was. I took it back apart and looked everything over but really didnt find anything. when I put it back togather and spun it with a drill it started working. Did the same thing with my spare and it started working as well.

Glad you got it working ok. Hope you made a note where the rotor was pointing when you removed
the mag so the mag is in time when you install it. Hal

I did make a note of were it was but if for some reason it got turned what is the timeing method on one of these? I know you adjust it at the coupler ahead of the mag and know how to get started by finding TDC but is there timeing marks? I wouldnt mind just checking it if there are marks to check to make sure it is right.

You need to look for a timing mark on the flywheel
or the damper pulley. Once you locate the timing mark put some chalk on it so it's visible.

You need to remove No1 plug near the radiator and have someone handcrank it over slowly until you feel compression against your thumb, then stop
the cranking and look for that chalk mark. Once you locate the chalk mark keep cranking the engine until the chalk mark is aligned with the pointer. You could use a big handle screwdriver after you feel compression by placing it in the
plug hole and watch very closely until the screwdriver stops rising. You don't want to drop
that into the cylinder. This is TDC for No1 piston. Your timing marks should be aligned too. Crank the engine very slow after you feel compression. Don't move the engine now.

Rotate the rotor on the mag to the No1 position on the cap and install on the tractor. The rotor should point to No1 in the cap, if not you need to pull the mag and reinstall until it is at No1. Don't forget to remove the screwdriver. Reinstall plug and see if the engine will start.
Hal

I'm not sure, it could be TDC. I don't have a manual for F-20. Once you get it running you can post for info on here. Someone either knows or has manual that has that info in it. If you don't have a electric starter on your tractor, you can use the battery in your car to power the light. Let us know if it starts. Hal

the rotating breaker part contacts a peg. You can see the peg here right inline with the notch the cover sets in.
