The battery is shot on my 350 Utility. It is a gas motor and runs well once it starts. How big a battery do I need? (Cold cranking amp wise)

Chris, a lot depends on how cold it gets and how dependale she needs to be at extreme cold temperatures. Regardless, I usually buy the highest CCA rating that will physically fit into the battery compartment and thats often the ones in the 950 to 1000 CCA or slightly larger rating. Equally important is good clean tight battery n starter n ground connections and large cables such a 0 Gauge or better NOT the automotive Wal Mart 2 or 4 gauge junk.

With either 6V or 12V,you want as much as possible. With 6V its a necessity. When you double voltage your amp load is cut in half,so a 6V starter that might need 500CA to start, would be 200-250CA at 12V.Bump that to 24V and the requirements half again. With a 6V battery you need 800-900 CCA,with 12V 600-800CCA.Be aware, there are 2 ratings....CA which is taken at 32 degrees F,and CCA which is at 0 degrees.Dont be fooled. The higher the amp rating, the more ooomph the battery has,and should generally last longer and be more pleasant to live with.Buy a cheapie with no power and it wont last the year.
