As a young kid back in late 1940's, Grapette was my favorite soda pop. Grandpa would always buy me one when we were in town at the feed store from one of those ice cold water cooler type soda machines. Recently saw the same trademark on products being sold by Wal-Mart with their own store brand. Does anyone know if this is the same receipe as the old Grapette of years ago? It certainly tastes quite good again or am I just dreaming - been a long time since I had a "real" Grapette. Thanks for your posts. Hal

Thanks for the post Jimmy and glad you made it home safely from your labor day excursions. Nice that you were able to stop by and we'll have to do it again. I made reservations for Sept. 16th (Friday night) so I'm good to go for the Republic. Plan on seeing you and Harley at least at the Steam show. Hal

Grapette came in a tiny little bottle, no more than 6 oz, and it may have been 4 oz. It seemed like it was nearly carbonated grape juice it was so strong. I've got some of that Sam's Choice Grapette in the fridge in my shop. It's pretty good, but I don't think it's up to the standards of the original. Sam's also has "orangette".

Don, it came in 6 oz. bottles and I have one you can see in October. There was even a Grapette bottling plant here in Rolla when we were kids. Dad would only let me have an occassional bottle of pop and then it had to be something that came in a larger bottle. Grandpa fed my Grapette habit though. Hal

Nothing went better with a peanut butter sandwich than a Grapette. Bubble Up just didn't get it done.

In the 50's it was so good, you would drink it out of a dirty bottle.

looks like you can still get the original mix at Wal-Mart or Sams. I remember drinking this stuff while pumping gas & changing tires at the Pauline, KS Co-op, back in the mid-60"s. Here"s a link with Grapette history, & where to buy it.

Thanks for the link. Looks like it came out in 1939 along with the letter series Farmalls great year for two things. It indicates this is the same stuff from when I was a kid only comes in cans now and not those little 6 oz. bottles. I thought it had a pretty good taste. Tried the Orangette also but not near as good as the grape. I think it also came in lemon as Lemonette, anyway I've seen a bottle that looks real. Thanks again and I might have just found a favorite soda pop again. Hal

We never Had Grapette,
Similar story however. Pocagan (sp?) Cream Soda, a Northern Indiana delight to a 6yr old at the Westville, IN Elevator. Another flavorite, is Vernors Gingerale MMM too good.

Never heard of Grapette either. But I fondly remember Vernor's ginger ale - great stuff!

I recall we could only find Vernor's in/around the Buffalo NY area. Don't know if it was a local product or ???

I was in the Seattle area for almost 40 years and knew a person there who really like Vernor's. Saw it several times in that area and even bought some to have in the house when he stopped by. Was a good ginger ale to me, also. Hal
