Farmall Starter Configuration

Did the early Farmall A's have a starter without a switch mounted on top of the starter (integral switch)? The reason I ask is my 1941 has a starter with no switch and I have seen other Farmall A starters without switches mounted on top of them. What should my 1941 Farmall A S#48529 have on it? I have the parts manual, but there is not an exact detail that I know of in the manual that shows the proper setup. I could use a detailed close up picture if anyone has one.

Thanks,

MACE

You need to get one for an A or B with the copper bar on the drive end with the two threaded holes so the sw will mount and the foot operated rod will push to enguage. One for a C will have the bar on the brush end and then the sw will mount backwards and have to be pulled.

They all had the switch directly on the starter. Your has been changed.

That is exactly what I wanted to know. My starter does not have the mounting holes for the switch. It was on the tractor when I got it and I am sure someone had the wrong starter on there. So what I need to find out now is if the correct starter switch arrangement had a starter rod that is a pull by hand type or if it is a foot activated type setup.

Thank You,

MACE

Like gene b said, the A and B used a switch mounted for a rod pushed with your foot. The Super A and C switch mounted the other way for a pull rod.
