I overhauled my Super A this spring, it has the same engine as the B & C. I took the head in and had it baked out, shot peened, and milled .015". They put in all new valves, seats, guides & shimmed the springs. They re-contoured the rocker too, where the valve stems wore into them. The head looked like brand new. I took out the original 1948 3" flat top cast iron pistons & sleeves. The rebuilder rounded up Clevite 3-1/8" aluminum high compression pistons & sleeves, and fitted new wrist pins. I replaced the rod bearings with Std. size, after checking out the crank. The mains were original, but had very little wear. The crank journals all looked good near as I could tell, so I replaced the bearings with Std. size also. I rebuilt the oil pump, flushed the sludge out of the block, and slapped it all together with a new gasket set. It got a real work out mowing fields & lawns this summer with the Woods L-59. We had some really tall, course, wet grass this summer. Before the re-build, it would smoke and bog down in the heavy stuff (I mow wide open in 3rd) Now it just keeps right on pulling, and will slip the mower belt if it plugs up with grass. Has a lot more power now, and starts better, no smoke either. I gained some hourse power for sure, but now sure how much.
