I am repairing the manual steering on my 330 Utility and I read about using Sten "00" oil when filling it with fluid. Is that oil or grease im putting in there? How much does it hold? Where can I get the gasket that fits between the two halves and also the bearings for the steering column. Part numbers???

The part numbers are as follows: Gasket - 368754R1; Bearing Cup - 68060H(2); Balls 5/16 - 16010R1(56); Shaft Seals - 94073R91(2); Upper Bearing - 91811R91. The upper brg. may be hard or impossible to find. If you have a helpful dealer, he can check other dealers as well as warehouse to see if anyone has them. Last time I checked I had no luck on them, and I have a really helpful parts man. The bottom brgs. on the steering shaft amy also be the same problem, but if the cups are ok, then you can get the 5/16 balls at dealer or bearing supplier. Thhe "Sten 00" is what I use in the gearboxes. It has the consistency of chassis grease but will still flow where as chassis grease will eventually get hard and won't lube the gears.Good luck with your rebuild.

The gasket is available from IH,but the bottom bearing has long since been dumped.Horrible boxes on 300/330/350Us....with no remedy in sight.I think some rich guy like Ross Perot or Bill Gates needs to commission a redesigned box for Ute owners....but then again...what would they care....they would just buy a new Kubota or something and wouldnt even give 50 year old stuff a second (or 1st) thought!

Is the steering really that big of a deal on these tractors?

There are a few 350 utilities with power steering I am looking at but doing a search on them you hear steering problems over and over and over again.

Is the steering a big enough problem that I should just steer clear of them? (pun intended) ;-)

Thanks, Nathan

If you aren't running a loader, the steering should be just fine, either manual or power. It's the extra stress that a heavy loader puts on the steering that does them in.
