There will be fall plow day hosted by Western NY 2 Cylinder Club and Stokoe Farms Pumpkins on Sunday Sept 25. All colors of tractors are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Last year we had Farmall, Oliver, Cockshutt and MM tractors working alongside the 2 cylinder machines. (Punch below for a few images from 2004.)

Plowing will be at Stokoe Farms Pumpkins, South Rd about 2 miles south of the village of Scottsville. For a detailed map copy/paste this:

Bring your tractor and join us, or just come and enjoy watching old tractors at work!

Bob: Your father in law seems to be enjoying himself, as are a lot of other folks. Super M seems to be doing okay with 4 bottoms behind it as well. I find it amusing how so many folks require so much horsepower today to pull a plow. They may find if they had less horsepower there would be less breakage and substancially less wear on points, shins and moldboards per acre.

I pull 2x12 with my little Farmalls 130 and 140 plowing 6 to 7 inches deep, even in heavy clay. Back on the farm in Nova Scotia my soil was a sandy loam, thus I really never had difficult plowing. I pulled 3x16 trailer 8" deep with Farmall 300. Then went to 4x16 behind 560D. Then even later to a 5x16 semi mount to use behind 1066. Never used it a whole lot behind 1066 as we dualed the tractor and had some real work for it. Pulled that 5x16 semi mount for years behind 656D and at a much lower cost per acre plowing.

My neighbor pulled a 5x16 Oliver trailer plow behind his Cockshutt 570D. Somewhere in the order of 52 drawbar horsepower. Plowing at 5 to 8 mph will only increase the costs per acre, may as well add bottoms and drop to 3-4 mph. Most combinations I've seen the slower speed and more bottoms plow the same acerage per hour.
