I took my steering box apart today on my 330 Utility and found that the nipple on the lever shaft is worn on one side from wearing on the worm. Can and does this need to be replaced from what you see in the pictures? How does it get replaced? Im wondering if that is why I get play everytime I turn the steering wheel. I also mest up the threads on the end of the lever shaft where the steering arm slides on. The nut wont go on, what should I do there? Can I take a chop saw and cut off the first thread? Bushings seem to be ok. How do I remove the steering wheel shaft to replace the very top bearing?

Four 3/8 bolts hold the top cover. Remove them and the shaft will slide out with a little encouragement. The nipple can be welded up and reground to origonal dimensions, this is the only way to fix them as far as I know. Take the threaded shaft to a machine shop, unless you have a thread file. I usually use the thread file on such problems.

I did remove the four bolts and cannot seem to get the shaft out. The bottom plate is too big for the opening in the housing. Is the nipple pressed in on the lever shaft? Should I just build the weld up while attached to the shaft? Does the nipple being worn down like that create the play in the steering that I am having? Does the tube come out of the top cover?

There's a snap ring that holds the bottom bearing cup onto shaft. Remove it and shaft should come out. Sorry, Forgot about that!!! The nipple is pressed in. You'll have to heat steering arm to remove it. You can weld it up in place. Either way will work OK. Worn nipple will create play in steering. I've never removed the tube so I'm not sure that they will come out.
