recently purchased farmall m with missing serial number tag. wondered if any other way ti id. year of tractor?

checked for casting numbers found following. on head 9-13S on transmission 9-26S. also engine turns free flywheel stuck to clutch any suggestions? thanks.

All the cast parts on the tractor are encoded with numbers, which indicate the date of manufacture. These are cast on the wheels, block, trans, belt pulley and others parts. Some parts may have been replaced over time but the majority of them should be the same as the model year of your M. These are not dates but codes that can be cross referenced to find the date. Many Farmall literature or restoration books have these indexes.

All of the major casting will have a date code. 2 numbers followed by a letter. Post that and someody will tell you the year. Also the engine has a serial number.

i have been told those 5 digit nos. on the pedestal tell mo.-day -yr such as 7-26 -46 would mean manufactured july 26 1946 is this correct? provided that part has not been changed over years. by serial plate my M is a 46 model and has those nos. on pedestal maybe coincedence? i dont know
