Pressure Plate Surface

In taking apart my F-20 clutch housing I am cleaning things up and find that the pressure plate while not discolored or blued has some surface hair line cracking that only goes a few thousandths deep from what I can tell. My coworker says I either need to replace it or have it resurfaced. Is that in fact true, or is that just the way an 80 year old pressure plate is going to look? Am I asking for trouble to just re-install it as is. I haven't changed out enough clutches to really know.

Pale Rider: If your planning to work the tractor hard for long days, I would replace the presure plate. If however it is a show tractor, used for some yard chores like plowing and tilling the family garden, I would use the old one.

Yep, they pretty much all look like that after awhile. You might take a sanding disc on a small grinder(the kind of disc you'd use to clean gasket surfaces, nothing real aggressive) or even some emory cloth and just buff it up a bit to break the glaze. Don't get carried away and try taking the cracks out. Then clean it off with some brake-clean to make sure there's no grease or oil contaminates and you should be good to go.

Don't worry about it. ALL pressure plates are cracked after they have been in use for awhile.
