To COVER or not to COVER ??????????????????????

I've heard that you should NOT put covers over tractors for any period of time. I've also been told it would not do any harm to cover them.

I am starting to think about putting my tractors up for the winter. I have one shop that is insulated with a concrete floor and one that is not insulated with rock for a floor.

Don't know if that makes any difference or not. I would like to put dust covers over them. I bought several painters drop cloths to do this but like to hear both pro's and con's about doing this before I do anything.

Just make sure your cover will let air pass through and soft enought as not to rub the paint...NO PLASTIC...old bed sheets and blankets work fine.....

This is yet another of those subjects where everyone has an opinion, and few, if any, are based on fact. "I heard this..." "I heard that..." "I heard something else..."

The real kicker is that it probably doesn't make jack squat bit of difference. All the worries about damage are either based on wives' tales or are so unlikely as to be laughable.

Frankly, the same rules for covering cars ought to apply to covering tractors too. You want a cover that keeps off dust and water, yet is still breathable. Obviously the cover should be soft on the inside so as to not scratch the paint...

I have found that when you use a cover, leave it open on the bottom. This allows air to circulate. I cover my combines and i have had no problems. They are outside, not enough barn space at this time( but do we ever have enough?). Although i sprayed a diesel/AT fluid mix on them this year. A farmer i know does this to his equipment every year and it stays like new. This is my two cents!

You have them inside, the dust won't hurt them. I would be afraid of moisture condensation under the cover, but I have never used one. UV rays from the sun, more than anything else, is what causes paint to deteriorate, you don't have that problem with them inside.
