Hey guys, got a wide front spindle on the left side of a Norden wide front end that kinda bows down like a fat lady's knees. Almost lets the tire rub on the top. Can't see any cracks or breaks on this, but like somebody else we all know and love, something like this just jumps out at me every time I get on the tractor and just drives me nuts. Here's the question. After jacking that side up, taking the top nut off, taking the tire off, and dropping the spindle out, can I torch almost through the bottom weld, bend the axle to the right angle, and reweld it so it stand up right? Any help appreciated, thanks, Harley

Hi Harley, the fellow that used to do all our welding would never staighten anything by heating it. He would take the cutting torch, cut a gap about 3/4 through the metal, then bend the item back straight and weld the gap closed. Never had one of his welds fail.

Good luck

Harley, do what you want, but we had one do the same thing on a 4020, and the next thing we knew it broke completely off after hitting a small bump while mowing hay. Quite an experience to realize I just passed one of my front wheels, spindle and all. If you decide to repair it, make sure it is done right.

You might get it good and red and re-bend it as well.

Don't know why not. I've done such things before. But a hacksaw cut might be enough.

Howard you just got me to thinking. Ifn a hacksaw would be good, a chopsaw with an 1/8th inch blade would be even better, huh. Ya I didn't want to heat and bend it, I wanted to cut it most of the way through, put it where it belongs, then reweld the shut out of it. Turn the old Lincoln up to about 150 and git er done. Thanks guys. Harley

Harley---

After you make the cut with the chopsaw grind a deep grove around where you cut it and lay several weld beads around until the grove is full then put in another layer of welds lapping one extra in the width....use the chipping hammer to keep each pass clean..... .slowly pour a can of oil over it to cool it....used oil is OK....
