I am rebuilding a F- 20 this winter and I and getting started on the Head 1st. The valves were stuck which is common I have been told for the F-20 so would it hurt anything to Knurl the valve guides? I have to tools to do this and I am thinking that the clearance should be about right on the money when I am done.

When the machine shop did mine they knurled the valve stems.

Thanks Cowman. Where is there a good place to rings and a gasket set? Thanks Shaggy

Alderson Tractor in Sigourney, IA would have the rings and gaskets. Call 641-624-2275 and ask for Darrell, he can get pretty much anything you need for the F-series. If you call tell him Scott sent you.

A couple of years ago I inquired about knurling valve guides on one of these forums, and got shot down big time. I still think it is a viable option, particularly if you already have the tools to do it yourself. If you have any spare knurling tools, I would be interested.

Knurling is an excellent repair technique.
The grooves made in the guide control oil well, the flats, from the sizing reamer, wear less than the original cylindrical bore because of the better oil distribution, and any dirt or metalic particles can remain in the groves, not punishing the stem. Approved is the word permission also granted.

Where are you from? close to IL. I also have the tools to do the guides on the A and B's engines.
