So here is where I am so far. If you haven't read the previous posts, here is the gist of it:Hugh and Paul told me where to find the serial number on the engine. The original seat is missing. Rusty Farmall told me that the casting code on the block indicates 5/2/45 as the date it was made. The serial number on the engine, if it were also the serial number of the tractor, would indicate the tractor itself was indeed a 1945 model (125072). This serial number is in the range of those tractors which should have matching engine and tractor serial numbers. Small problem in that there is no "FAB" prefix on the engine serial number. Gene Bender tells me that it might be a replacement block and that these would have been hand stamped by the installer and the FAB might have been left off. A further complication. The seller of the tractor mentioned he thought a C engine might have been installed. He thought the tractor had an awful lot of power for what it was. I don't even know if it is possible to have a C engine on a B. So that is it. Detective Dave is about to hang up his badge on this one. I realize that I probably will never know for sure what I have here and I am really only doing this for fun. Just wondering if anyone had any opinions before I close the book and start telling people...."well, it's most likely a "45", but just can't be sure." Thanks for all the help!
