I am looking to buy a 58 farmall cub. It needs some carb. work the seller says. It has 2 new front tires, new rings, and has had the top end rebuilt. Was told that runs good but the carb. loads up and then the tractor stalls out. It comes with disc, plow, road blade, and cultivators. Seller is asking $1000. I know I will need to do some work on it, but if some one could give me so input on whether it is a good buy or not. I appreciate any input alot.

thanks, 58 cub

Not likely you would lose anything, especially with all the extras. Carb is nothing. You can buy a kit to rebuild and people here will help you with anything that comes up.

You might try offering $800 because of the carb needing work but even at $1,000 it isn't a bad deal. The carb isn't a big deal, I may even have a new aftermarket carb for it.

Cubs in my area with all that stuff with it would go for around $2000-3000. As far as the carb you can buy a new/rebuilt one for around $150-200 so you would stil only have $1200 in a tractor worth around $2500. Sounds like a good buy to me unless the rear tires are bad and the sheet metal is bad.

I have bought running cubs for $500-800. All needed a little work but all ran and drove.

Why put an after market Carb on it when you can go the the Case/IH dealer and buy a complete carb kit for half the price of the after market carb?

Have you checked the price of a kit from Case-IH lately? It would be about as cheap to buy a reman carb.

I just put a complete kit in a b for abour 70 dollars. I have not put one in the cub yet. but there are aftermarket places for carb kits as well that are cheaper that 150 dollars such as branson enterprises who list a kit for 24 dollars
